Count Finds Region-Wide Increase in Homelessness
The 2017 Homeless Count in Metro Vancouver found 3,605 people homeless in the region, up 30% from the previous count in 2014.
Statement from the City of Maple Ridge
The City of Maple Ridge has been actively engaged in addressing the issue of homelessness. Accurate data is important in understanding the complexity of this issue. The City of Maple Ridge has made requests to the province for data relating to some of the issues that have been raised in the community. When that data is provided to us we will share it through our website and social media channels.
Data that the City of Maple Ridge can provide is as follows:
The City of Maple Ridge has 30 permanent Shelter beds operated by the Salvation Army-Ridge Meadows Ministries. The Salvation Army has been asked to open a temporary shelter with 30 beds intended for use by those vacating the Raincity Temporary Shelter which is scheduled to close on May 31, 2017.
As of May 31, 2017 Maple Ridge will have 30 permanent shelter beds and 30 temporary shelter beds all located at the Salvation Army.
