Maple Ridge Leisure Centre - Pool & Lobby/Change Room Upgrades
The Maple Ridge Leisure Centre (MRLC) has served the community for 37 years, and key infrastructure replacements and repairs are needed to ensure continued services. The overall project will fully upgrade the pool tanks and supporting systems including mechanical, electrical and chlorination and renovate the change rooms, lobby and reception areas. The borrowing amount listed pertains to the lobby and change room upgrades.

This project proposes a new community centre to replace the original Albion Hall that was demolished several years ago. The new community centre will be co-located on the same site as a new elementary school and neighbourhood learning centre that will open in September 2019. The vision for the Multi-Use Community Centre is for a facility that fosters a relationship with the neighbourhood and adjacent elementary school as well as connections to the forested site, existing trails and wetland areas. Programming at this site will benefit the students, the neighbourhood and the community.
The key components of the proposed Albion Neighbourhood Learning and Community Centre include;
Community Hall/Gathering place that can open out into a natural setting.
Meeting rooms and programming space.
Child care space.
Outdoor spaces, community gardens and play spaces.
The two proposed outdoor pavilions will be more fully defined through consultation with the neighbourhoods. The intent is to support Silver Valley by connecting the neighbourhoods. These facilities will encourage activities such as barbeques, community gardening and outdoor gatherings.
Building costs for these new gathering places are estimated to be $600,00 to one million with annual operating costs estimated at $38,600.
This project will provide a significant upgrade to the Hammond Community Centre. Renovations to the 1970's vintage hall, daycare, lobby and building envelope are included. Landscaping and new support buildings for the sports fields and outdoor pool are also included. The existing sport court will be resurfaced and food truck infrastructure will be added to serve the outdoor pool and fields.
This proposal involves the expansion of the Planet Ice facility that is currently located next to Albion Fairgrounds. This project proposal seeks to expand the existing facility to by adding a new ice sheet.
Create a new NHL sized sheet of ice.
An upgraded lobby and public space.
Upgrade existing change rooms.
Add new change rooms to accommodate the new sheets of ice.
Add a fitness space and viewing area for the new sheets of ice on the second level of the expansion.
Add a new office/meeting space.
Borrowed building costs for this facility expansion are estimated to be 23.5 million.
Planned Upgrades will improve track and field facilities by providing lighting for the track, additional spectator seating capacity and change rooms. These upgrades will also help prepare this venue for the 2020 BC Summer Games.
