Youth Services

Content

We strive to empower youth to empower themselves. By providing a comprehensive program (through linking community partners, parents/guardians and the youth themselves) we have developed a "one stop shopping" concept for youth. Through this concept, the community has been invited to contribute to the program as well as become educated on what is going on in our community. By empowering youth and giving them the responsibility to make their own decisions, we believe that they learn more about themselves and the community in which they live.

The Youth Centres

Co-supervised by trained staff and youth volunteers. The focus is on fun in a constructive environment, safe for all to participate. Ages 13-18 years

The Youth Workers all have extensive experience working with youth and are positive role models and mentors for Youth. Youth Workers are scheduled to work consistent shifts -youth can expect a certain Youth Worker to be available on a specific evening of the week.

Children's Programs

We will continue to help enhance the quality of services that support children by providing a safe and healthy environment where they can exercise their "Basic Right to Education and Recreation." Youth Programs and Initiatives

Youth Outreach Initiative

The program is based on the philosophy that youth involved in community-based programs report improvement in school achievement, improved communication with parents, hopefulness about the future and increased self-esteem.

Under the Youth Outreach Initiative concept, youth are encouraged to make decisions about the types of activities within the program. Our mandate is to work for all youth, and to recognize and develop our youth's strengths as well as their ability to achieve.

The Centre houses a number of lease tenants that work in the area of prevention with youth, and a number of other community partners access the Centre to offer services to youth.
